Businesses are seeing powerful results when they are using local search marketingtactics to become visible on the web.    Using the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing business owners are seeing growing ROI compared to Yellow Pages.

Have you noticed you yellow pages shrinking every year?  Well most consumers are now using computers, cell phones and tablets to find what they are looking for locally.  The local consumers are using search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing and Yelp to get information and research companies locally.

Just here in USA alone there are about 120 billion searches a month on the internet, according to Search Engine Land.  One out of five of those searches is local in nature.  Typically, consumers that are searching with for a local product or a service are ready to purchase that product or service, so it is important to be prominently displayed on local search results to increase revenue.

Those businesses that want to be successful when marketing to local consumers need to first claim their local business listings through the search engines.

Local Search Marketing Using Google Places

For instance to claim Google places you need to go to the Google places page and register the business.  After the business is verified either through a phone call or a post card then information can be added to the listing such as contact information, business  description, photos and videos.  When that information is added it is called optimization and for that Google and other search engines reward the business by placing them higher in the rankings.  One point that you have to keep in mind is when you are writing the description is that you keep it keyword rich with information about the location.

Also it is possible to target other places locally where consumers would be looking for a service or a local product such as yelp, online yellow pages and other local directories.

Also it is very important to have reviews on your listings because when someone is searching for you in the search engines they will have to make a decision if they want to go with you or not.  One way that helps them make that decision is when they see others that have used the service or the product and they have written a review about it in the local directory such as Google Places.  In addition reviews help the search engines validate that the business is alive and active.

The coolest thing about marketing online is that you can track everything.   You can find out how many people visited your place page or your website.  You can see what they did on your website and what actions they took.

That is the reason that so many businesses are taking advantage of this new media to be able to be there when their clients are searching for them.
